Romanian interior minister Cristian David asked the prime minister Thursday to sack Popa on grounds of faulty management in the unfolding of police car procurement.

The interim leadership of the General Police Inspectorate will be provided by Gheorghi Plai, deputy chief of police.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior, David insists on the halting of the contract, with its Police Inspectorate accepted format. "As long as I am minister, this contract will not be unfolded," David said in the release.

Popa will be made available for the ministry and will take up a position in accordance with his rank and professional training.
