The exchange rate is the strongest since September 27, when the central bank announced a reference rate of 4.2465 per euro.
Romania’s currency gained against the US dollar as well, and the leu’s indicative was set at 3.2744 units, 0.6% stronger from 3.2934 units in the previous session.
The leu opened at 4.2550/4.2560 to the euro, almost unchanged from 4.2555/4.2575 to the euro at Tuesday closing.
It touched an early high of 4.2515/4.2525 units shortly after opening, and it continued to rise throughout the first part of the session.
At around GMT1100, the leu traded at 4.2505/4.2530 to the euro.
On the money market, the overnight rates were flat at 2.2%-2.7% a year.
