EC To Release Report On Romanian Justice Sector Friday – President

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday on public radio that the European Commission's report on Romania's justice sector will be released Friday at the latest.

The President added that the last thing Romania needs is for the report to mention the case of democrat liberal MP Dan Pasat (charged with corruption; the request for his immunity to be lifted did not garner enough votes) as a problem, or be suspicious of the High Council of Magistrates’ operation.

He also said „the Parliament is again in a difficult situation” and believes the report will read „the Parliament blocks access to justice,” if not „the vote in Parliament reflects the lack of political willpower.”
