Romanian Police Officers Suspend Protests Following President’s Invitation For Talks

Gruia said if the talks with the president turn out fruitless, protests will be resumed.

The head of state will meet on Thursday at 11 am the representatives of the National Union of Police Officers, according to the agenda of the head of state announced by the Presidential Administration.

Basescu invited ten representatives of the police officers for talks, amid protests of the unionists in Bucharest. The meeting had been initially planned for Sunday, at 12 local time.

Marian Gruia, head of the union, told the president the reasons for which police officers have protested since Monday.

Over 300 Romanian police officers protested on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday in front of the Government and the Presidential Palace demanding rent money and payment for overtime work, as well as the covering of the employee deficit in the public safety department.
