Romania’s January Net Salary Dn 4.8% M-M, To RON1,424

Romania’s net average salary in January was at 1,424 lei (EUR1=RON4.2127), down 4.8% compared with the previous month, since holiday bonuses were granted in December, Romania’s statistics institute said Monday.

The gross average salary was at RON1,963 in January, down 5% from the previous month, the statistics data showed.

Employees in the IT sector saw, in January, the highest average net salaries, namely RON3,430, while hotel and restaurant employees were at the opposite pole, with RON847.

Net average salary in agriculture was down 9.8% on the month, at RON1,047, while employees in the energy sector saw a 13% salary decrease on the month in January, to RON2,606.

Net salaries in industry averaged RON1,412 in January, down 10.6% from December.

Compared with January 2010, the average net salary in Romania was down 0.1%.
