Romania Anticorruption Dept Hears Prosecutors Over Alleged Contest Defrauding
The commission members are suspected of defrauding the contests to fill in the mentioned positions.
Gabriela Ghita, president of the Examination Commission, is among the officials heard by the prosecutors.
Romania’s Prosecutor General Codruta Kovesi on Friday said she will ask the National Anticorruption Department, or DNA, to speed up investigations into possible defrauding of the contest.
“I will demand DNA to make this file top priority, as it is highly important to establish the manner in which this contest was organized, to see whether it has to be invalidated or not and, giving its significance, the file must be solved as soon as possible to establish the exact facts,” Kovesi said.
Anticorruption prosecutors on Thursday detained Bucharest chief prosecutor Sterian Guli in connection with the case.
Guli and two other candidates for positions of chief prosecutors are investigated on allegations that they offered bribe to learn the subjects for the exam they needed to pass to qualify for such positions.
People close to the matter said the three had the help of people in the examination committee and the High Council of Magistrates, or CSM.
