Bucharest Hosts Third World Summit Of Prosecutors General March 24, 25

Romania’s capital city Bucharest will host Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24 and 25, the third World Summit of Prosecutors General, Attorneys General and Chief Prosecutors.

The summit will be held at the Palace of Parliament and Romania’s prosecutor general Laura Codruta Kovesi will be the first to speak in its opening.
 
The event will focus on the issue "Prosecutor General – the pillar of today’s criminal justice system." The event will be attended by prosecutors general of the United Nations member states and representatives of various international organizations active in the criminal justice sector.
 
The attendees will discuss the role of prosecutors general in strengthening people’s trust in the criminal justice system, prosecutors’ independence and impartiality when engaged in investigations, as well as the efficient management of criminal cases, and they will try to find ways to ensure an efficient justice system.
 
On March 24, at 9:30 local time, Kovesi will deliver a speech in the opening of the summit, followed by speeches of President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Emil Boc, John Sandage, deputy director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Francois Falletti, president of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), and Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, prosecutor general of Qatar, the country that hosted the second Summit of Prosecutors General in 2005.
 
Guatemala hosted the first summit back in 2004 and 75 UN member states attendees focused on issues targeting the access to justice system, the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism, transnational organized crime and corruption.
