Setting up a ministry is a long-term procedure, however, which requires the Parliament’s approval, the sources said.
Recently, Democratic Liberal Party vice-president Sorin Frunzaverde told MEDIAFAX that the ruling coalition has discussed creating such a ministry, but no decision has been made yet. As for the European Commission, it would welcome any initiative to improve Romania’s absorption of regional funds, according to spokesman Ton Van Lierop.
The president and prime minister also discussed the need to speed up the sale of the state’s minority packages in certain companies, finding a solution to the dispute between the state and oil company Rompetrol, making chemical producer Oltchim economically-viable, as well as moving forward with the infrastructure projects financed by the European Union and state budget.
