Romania’s August Net Salary Down 1.2% M-M To RON1,339

Romania’s net average salary in August was at 1,339 lei (EUR1=RON4.2815), down 1.2% compared with the previous month, the National Institute for Statistics said Tuesday.

The gross average salary was at RON1,846 in August, down 1.2% compared with the previous month.

In August, wages dropped compared with a month earlier due to furloughs and the companies’ financial difficulties, the statistics institute said.

It said employees in the airline industry saw, in August, the biggest average net salaries of RON3,330, while the hotel and restaurants’ employees were at the opposite pole, with RON787.

The net average salary in agriculture was down 1.5% on the month, at RON1,013, while the employees in the energy sector saw a 3.3% salary decrease in August, to RON2,640.

Net salaries in industry averaged RON1,403 in August, down 1.1% from July.

Compared with August 2009, the average net salary in Romania was down 0.7%.
