Romanian President Basescu Calls On Russia To Respect Romanian Interests

Basescu said the two countries’ relationship has had „unique aspects” over its history, but Romania and Russia never ignored each other. Basescu added that Russia’s influence in the region is significant and that Romania acknowledges this fact.

„The message I want to send is that Russia can find a partner in Romania, as long as our interests are respected. We need a mutually beneficial economic cooperation with Russia, through trade, which grew four times during my first term,” the Romanian head of state said.
