Citing a forecast of the London Volcanic Ash Advisory, the Romanian Environment Ministry said the plume will cover most of the country's territory by Tuesday afternoon. It added the plume isn't causing pollution.
Three flights to Italy were cancelled Sunday on Bucharest's international airport Otopeni and another two flights were cancelled on international airport Baneasa, because of a new volcanic eruption in Iceland and the ash cloud hovering over Europe.
The volcano, located under a glacier about 120 kilometers southeast of the capital Reykjavik, started erupting last month and wrought travel chaos across Europe for nearly a week as authorities grounded aircrafts due to a cloud of ash.
Civil aviation authority head Catalin Radu said Romania won't close its airspace Monday, saying the plume shifted course over night and is moving further away from Europe.
Spain, Portugal, northern Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic have closed their airspace.
