Romanian PM Threatens To Sack Fin Min Unless Tax Evasion Is Countered

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said Thursday he explicitly required the finance minister and the head of the country’s fiscal authority ANAF to be efficiently involved in fighting tax evasion and threaten to sack both unless he sees results.

The prime minister also promised to monitor the two officials’ activity closely and check up on them every month.

„I have asked the finance minister and the head of ANAF, explicitly, to fight tax evasion and manage EU funds. I will be watching them every month because we’ve amended legislation to ensure additional tool to fight tax evasion. They will be dismissed unless I see results,” Boc said, answering a query regarding the fiscal authority head’s recent statement that Financial Guard employees are corrupt.

ANAF president Sorin Blejnar said Wednesday many of the country’s Financial Guard employees will be laid off because they „take bribe”.
