This was the prime minister’s answer to a question regarding the extent to which the Government is prepared to fulfill commitments made during the campaign, raised during the release of the analysis, synthesis and forecast report entitled “Romania in 2009, the economic crisis and the rule of law” by the Romanian Academic Society.
The same point was made Friday by finance minister Gheorghe Pogea, during the debate on the 2009 state budget draft in the Parliament’s budget commissions, indicating that political promises are valid only if the economy is able to sustain them.
He explained that campaign promises were based on a certain economic reality, which no longer exists.
