Romania’s Government passed in its Tuesday meeting an emergency decree which allows for the increase of state child allowances, as was agreed in the 2019 budget, with the measure to apply starting with the month following the budget’s enactment.

The combined chambers of the Romanian Parliament approved on Thursday a Liberal Party amendment to the 2019 budget bill which raises allowances for children aged 2-18 from RON84 to RON150 per month.

The Romanian Government plans to eliminate exemptions from the payment of phone and radio-TV subscriptions for war veterans and also to cut allowances for people with disabilities and replace them with fixed sums, according to a Government working draft aimed at cutting social spending.

Romania’s Government will reduce child-rearing benefits starting June 1 and it will soon be decided whether the benefits will drop to a given percentage or a fixed sum, said Tuesday Andreea Paul-Vass, economic adviser to Prime Minister Emil Boc.

Romanian state allowances for minors should depend on school attendance, vaccination and annual medical check-ups, as current practices are outdated, democrat liberal MEP Theodor Stolojan told Radio France International Thursday.

Romanians who work in Italy can benefit from family and maternity allowances, whose amounts are set by the Italian government based on number of family members and total income per family, Romanian labor agency ANOFM said Friday.
