Consumption-led growth has remained strong in Romania, raising people’s incomes toward those in advanced Europe, but macroeconomic imbalances have also deepened and fiscal and current account deficits have widened and inflation pressure is rising again, the International Monetary Fund said Friday.

Romanian General Prosecutor Augustin Lazar said on Wednesday that a document invoked by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader as being in his nomination file was actually drafted and signed by prosecutor Cristian Lazar, and erroneously added to his file.

A delegation of the World Bank will soon arrive in Bucharest to assess Romania’s performance regarding the measures included in the financing agreement with the international lender, officials of the World Bank’s office in Bucharest said Tuesday.

The European Commission notes, in a draft justice report obtained by MEDIAFAX, that Romania does not meet conditions allowing the activation of a safeguard clause and the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, or MCV, must continue.
