The fundamental credit outlook for the Romanian banking sector is negative, reflecting the challenging conditions in the local economy stemming from the global financial crisis, according to Moody's Investors Service's new Banking System Outlook on Romania.

The Romanian central bank might soon become creditor for the banking system, with the intention of lowering liquidity costs, said Eugen Radulescu, adviser to the governor of the Romanian central bank.
