Romania's Government plans to use a significant part of EU funds to support the building thermal rehabilitation program and will ask the authorities involved to better publicize the incentives for homeowners who begin such projects, said Prime Minister Emil Boc.

The updated calculation method for taxes on buildings and lands, which translates into a hike depending on inflation or the market value, will be applicable only as of January 1, 2010, said fiscal policies and local budgets manager within Romania’s Interior Ministry, Daniel Marinescu.

Romania issued 11,806 building permits for residential projects in the first quarter of 2008, up 13.1% from the same period a year ago, the country’s Statistics Institute said Tuesday.
