The head of the Gendarmerie force of Romania’s capital Bucharest, Gavrila Pop, was demoted Thursday because security forces didn’t intervene at a police protest outside the presidential palace on September 24.

The chief of the Bucharest Police, Marian Tutilescu, was replaced Thursday in the aftermath of the scandal at the Plaza Romania mall, according to official sources.

Virgil Ardelean will resign from the headship of the General Intelligence and Internal Protection Division of the Ministry of Administration and Interior.

Romanian interior minister Cristian David asked Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu to dismiss the chief of Romanian Police, Gheorghe Popa, on grounds of faulty management in the unfolding of police car procurement.
