Romanian President Klaus Iohannis accused the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) of trying to use the plight of two communist era political detainees for its own goals, after it included the latter in a delegation which attended talks at the Presidential Palace on Friday.

Gheorghe Apostol, a former Romanian communist official died Saturday afternoon at the age of 98, private television Realitatea TV said Sunday.

Romanian anti-communism fighter Vasile Paraschiv refused Monday the Star of Romania in the rank of Knight offered to him by President Traian Basescu, mentioning that he refuses to receive it "from a communist just like all those who ran the country since the Revolution."

Romania’s President Traian Basescu said Tuesday at the public television that he finds it hard to understand the policy of the Communist Party in Chisinau, but stressed that the aggressive gestures displayed by the Moldovan President, Prime Minister and foreign affairs minister will not change Romania’s stand toward the Republic of Moldova.
