The Romanian Government introduced new conditions to be considered in the program by which students coming from families with low incomes are granted EUR200 to purchase computers.

The Romanian government decided to suspend this year a program that granted EUR200 aid to help students in low income families buy computers, citing the need to revise selection criteria for beneficiaries and run detailed check-ups on applicants.

Romanian senators rejected, Wednesday, Government Emergency Ordinance no. 168/2008, which provided each high school pupil with a desktop computer, destined for home use.

The Romanian Senate Wednesday rejected 52 to 14 votes and four abstentions the draft law approving Government Emergency Ordinance no. 87/2008, offering desktop computers to ninth and tenth graders, to be used at home.

Romanian IT&C company Intrarom, subsidiary of INTRACOM TELECOM, won on August 29 the auction organized by the Ministry of Education and Research for the outfitting of computer labs in 8,191 school and high schools. The value of the contract reaches RON432.38 million (EUR122.48 million).
