Romanian big realty transactions dropped 58% to EUR50 million in the first quarter, the only property deal being the acquisition of Fabian Romania investment fund, Cushman&Wakefield consultancy firm said Sunday.

The number of real estate deals in Romania decreased about 25% on the year in the last four months of 2008 and the number of deals for the entire year 2008 decreased more than 7% compared to 2007, the Romanian Union of Notaries Public, or UNNPR, said in a press release Thursday.

Romania ranks second in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of large real estate deals closed in the first half of the year, which totaled EUR815 million, up 18.6% from the same period a year ago, realtor Cushman & Wakefield said in a report Monday.

Real estate transactions in Romania dropped 68% to EUR119 million in the first quarter, mirroring a downward trend of the European commercial properties market, realtor Cushman & Wakefield said in a report Monday.
