Wages of Romanian dignitaries and people in public office, frozen for this year, will be increased in 2010 only if the country’s economy allows wage hikes for this category of staff, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday.

Romania’s National Integrity Agency (ANI), an institution checking the correctness of wealth statements submitted by dignitaries, plans to urge amendments to the law regulating the agency’s activity to eliminate the EUR5,000 threshold from wealth statements, ANI head Catalin Macovei said Monday.

The Romanian Public Ministry is obligated to ask the Parliament for approval in the investigation of ministers or former ministers, who are currently members of Parliament, when the dignitaries are targeted within an investigation.
