Romanian President Traian Basescu and social democrat head Mircea Geoana are among presidential contenders who obtained the most donations for their election campaign, according to the country’s election authority.

The leader of the County Council Iasi, eastern Romania, Constantin Simirad, was ousted from the Social Democratic Party on Friday after saying last week that he would back acting president Traian Basescu in the upcoming presidential election campaign.
