Romania is likely to introduce mandatory energy certification for buildings as of March 30, Development Ministry state secretary Ioan Andreica said Wednesday, adding the ministry will propose to exempt thermally rehabilitated buildings.

Romanian could make energy certification for buildings mandatory as of March if the government approves the Development’s Ministry’s emergency decree regulating it, the ministry said Thursday.

The Romanian Association of Real Estate Agencies (ARAI) said the law which requires an energy certificate when carrying out real estate transactions will be hard to apply as of January 1, 2010 and requested its implementation be delayed until the second half of next year.
