Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday that only one in seven vacant positions in the healthcare system can be unfrozen at the moment, adding he called on authorities in the field to reassess all vacancies in the sector.

Members of Romania’s Sanitas Federation threaten to stage protests in capital city Bucharest on Nov 4 and a general strike on Nov 20, considering that health minister Eugen Nicolaescu went aboard although they had to meet Tuesday and discuss potential wage hikes for employees in the healthcare system.

The reform of healthcare system in Romania will be complete once hospitals are able to finance themselves, without asking funds from the state budget or from local authorities, Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu said Thursday.
