Romanians trust firefighters, the church and the military, while the President, Parliament, Government and political parties register the lowest level of popularity, according to a survey conducted by sociological research company CCSB and ordered by NGO “Pro Democratia.”

Romanian Environment Minister Borbely Laszlo told a press conference Friday that he wants to extend the local clunkers program to include local authorities and institutions, adding he hopes to get the Government to drop the ban on new purchases of vehicles applied to public institutions.

Romanian president Traian Basescu said he noticed certain politicians and their acolytes have been hellbent on a campaign aimed at systematically discrediting state institutions, adding he will soon clarify what's lying behind the “political and media manipulation aimed at discrediting the state.”

Romanian non-banking financial institutions (NBFI) are invited to the central bank sometime next month for talks on the regulation of access to information supplied by the Bank Risk Central, said Thursday the head of the financial activity and NBFI service within the central bank, Angela Dimonu.
