Romania maintains its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and supports the resumption of direct negotiations between the two parties, to ensure peace in the region, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Wednesday, at the end of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Romanian president Traian Basescu met Sunday in Ramallah with Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, stating at the end of the meeting that the Middle East should move to peace talks and give up preconditions set for the beginning of talks.

Romania will support, both directly and in its position of EU member, a just and sustainable peace process in the Middle East that would guarantee the security of the state of Israel, Romanian President Traian Basescu said Monday in Jerusalem.
