A consortium formed of two South Korean companies wants to join the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at nuclear power plant Cernavoda, the Romanian Economy Ministry said in a news release Friday.

Romanian Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely said Friday on Radio France International tests for nuclear plants need to be more extensive after the situation in Japan, adding he is confident Romania’s nuclear plant would pass the tests and risk of radiation contamination is low.

Supporting the nuclear power projects is an "unfortunate thing," which means Romania still has a socialist-like mentality, businessman Dinu Patriciu said Thursday at the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum.

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu said Friday that Romania should reduce its energetic dependence to a single source of energy by building a new plant, apart from the two nuclear reactors at Cernavoda, which are currently in progress.
