Romania will become dependent on electricity imports if nuclear reactors 3 and 4 are not built at Cernavoda nuclear power plant, according to Pompiliu Budulan, the general manager of state-owned nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica, which is the plant’s operator.

Romanian EnergoNuclear Monday received a favorable response from the European Commission for the construction of two additional reactors at the country’s sole nuclear power plant in Cernavoda, the majority holder in EnergoNuclear said.

The construction of the nuclear reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda nuclear power plant will be finalized with at least one-year delay, on Romanian Government failing to officially notify Czech power group CEZ AS about its decision to increase nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica stake in the project.
