Patriarch Daniel, the leader of Romania’s Orthodox Church, could become an honorary citizen of the country’s capital, according to a draft decree signed by Bucharest Mayor Gabriela Firea.

The Holy Synod elected eight high church officials within the most important poll organized by the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) after the fall of communism in 1989.
