The Romanian Senate’s committee for legal matters on Tuesday approved eight to three votes anticorruption prosecutors’ request to allow for the arrest of social democrat senator Catalin Voicu, accused of influence peddling and fraud.

The Romanian Senate’s Standing Office decided Tuesday, after putting the matter to the vote, senators who quit parliamentary parties to join the independent group of MPs will lose their positions in parliament standing committees.

Romania’s Parliament committees for public administration, economy and industry endorsed proposed Regional Development and Tourism Minister Vasile Blaga with 34 to 28 votes.
