The rate of software piracy in Romania has dropped in the last two years, remained constant in Europe and is rising worldwide, according to data made public Tuesday by the Romanian Police Department, Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the General Prosecutor's Office.

The Asian Glory, the ship whose crew includes two Romanians, has been released by Somali pirates, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced Friday, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, cited by the online edition of the Kyiv Post.

Romania’s Government approved Monday an emergency decree fighting piracy in road transpiration, a bill demanded by transporters’ union COTAR, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

Romania’s PC software piracy rate decreased two percentage points in 2008, to 66% from 68% in 2007, while losses in the local software industry increased 65% to $249 million, according to a report of Business Software Alliance (BSA) published on its official website.

The software piracy ratio reached 68% in Romania, according to data presented Wednesday in a press conference held by the Romanian General Police Inspectorate.

Piracy continued to be a serious problem for Romania in 2007 with losses that rose to $95 million, up 26% against 2006, with the problems of Internet piracy growing to become the most serious threat to the industry, according to a report issued by the International Intellectual Property Alliance.
