The leader of Romania’s Liberal Party (PNL), Ludovic Orban, summoned a meeting of the party’s executive bureau for Sunday evening, to present and discuss the results of the last national poll regarding the upcoming MEP elections, party sources told MEDIAFAX.

The chairman of Romanian opposition party USR, Dan Barna, said on Thursday that a poll requested by his group has the country’s ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) down 20% compared its score in the 2016 elections, which he stated shows that it is not capable to govern.

Romanian democrat liberal vice-president Adrian Videanu on Monday said counts in all polling stations show incumbent President Traian Basescu leading the vote with 50.33%, while social democrat contender Mircea Geoana got 49.67% of the votes.

The last seven polling stations for Romania’s presidential election set up in Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Sacramento, Orange County and Las Vegas, on the west coast of the United States, closed Monday morning at GMT0500, Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

Romania’s former president, social democrat Ion Iliescu said Monday that winning first or second place in elections doesn’t make much a difference for the Social Democratic Party considering a Parliament majority will be formed following negotiations.

The Bucharest Electoral Office (BEM) announced Tuesday that independent Sorin Oprescu won the race for Bucharest mayoralty with 56.55% of the votes against 43.45% gained by democrat–liberal rival Vasile Blaga.
