The peak of speculative and non-speculative pressures upon the Romanian leu has passed, and the salary and fiscal policies are both much more adequate than in the past period, central bank governor Mugur Isarescu said Thursday.

The ongoing global financial crisis has exposed Romanian banks to increased risks, through mounting pressure on the exchange rate in an operating environment dominated by foreign banks, Fitch Ratings said in a special report Monday.

The Romanian High Council of the Magistrates (CSM) approved the proposition formulated by justice minister Catalin Predoiu regarding the introduction in the Criminal Code of crimes involving pressure on justice and contempt of legal bodies, which are now punishable by prison terms or fines.
