Romania’s Agriculture Ministry has asked the European Commission for solutions to reimburse local cucumber producers following a halt in exports to the Czech Republic and Germany due to an E.coli epidemic reported in Germany.

Romanian small agricultural producers may continue to sell their stock in markets, as long as they hold producers’ certificates, and occasional sellers of produce will be exempt from the requirement to own electronic cash registers, the Agriculture Ministry said in a press release Monday.

The members of the Romanian Union of Poultry Breeders (UCPR) demanded reparations from professor Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, whom they accuse of misinforming the population and seriously damaging the image of egg producers in Romania, which could have grave consequences.

Romanian producers and retailers signed Wednesday the Guide of Good Practices regulating trade with agri-food products, which will come into force once it receives approval from the Competition Council.

Romanian producers and retailers on Thursday reached an agreement upon stipulations included in the Guide of Good Practices and said that will sign the document on July 2.

Romanian producers in the food sector will be able to protect traditional food products by means of a new procedure, which consists in registering these products as traditional specialties guaranteed in the European Union.
