Despite contrary statements, 85% of the products sold in Romanian supermarkets are made in Romania, president Traian Basescu said Friday.

Romanian companies must be competitive to be able to enter the Russian market, as some products made in Romania are 30% more expensive than those in Russia, although they have the same technical features, said Igor Sidorov, councilor with the Russian Federation Embassy in Romania.

Romania’s largest lender by assets Banca Comerciala Romana, or BCR, launched several products and services to implement projects using non-reimbursable European funds, the bank said Thursday.

Shelf prices for products sold in Romania are nearly 15% higher than in other European states, due to high distribution costs on the local market, said Wednesday Gerard F.A. Kuijs, CEO of the Dutch logistics consultancy company Archicom.
