Bogdan Niculescu Duvaz, spokesman for Romania’s ruling coalition Social Democratic Party, told unionists protesting at the party’s headquarters in Bucharest that they shouldn’t protest there because the party is leaving the government anyway.

Romanian interior minister Cristian David regrets the Wednesday events, when the anti-NATO protesters were raided by gendarmerie units, and added he will receive a detailed analysis on "the set of order and public safety measures" taken solely by ministry structures.

Two German nationals, part of a group of anti-NATO protesters detained by police on Wednesday, asked for legal assistance Thursday in view of a possible suit against Romania over police brutality.

The anti-NATO protesters detained for questioning in Bucharest on Wednesday were nationals of Germany, Romania, Moldova, Portugal, Spain and Poland, Bucharest police chief Marian Tutilescu said in a press conference.
