Five Romanian senators have drafted a bill requiring psychological and psychiatric examinations of all candidates for public office, including presidential candidates.

Romania’s former finance minister Gheorghe Pogea said Friday he was never incompatible with public office as he resigned his management position when appointed minister but the Trade Registry probably took too long to register the change.

Most leading public office positions in Romania are filled by men, and only 19% of ministers and 9.76% of lawmakers are women, according to a survey presented Monday by the Romanian Agency for Equal Chances (ANES).
