Bucharest subway operator Metrorex has announced its intention to buy 16 new trains for an estimated EUR107.2 million.

Romanian state-owned passenger railway carrier CFR Calatori plans to purchase in the next four years 400 InterRegio train cars for an estimated 1 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.3079), VAT not included, and modernize 190 train cars for about RON317.3 million, VAT not included.

The discount and VAT payment for purchases of transportation means within the community will be performed before the vehicle’s registration in Romania, to prevent the possibility, especially for individuals, of avoiding the tax.

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu urged the country’s Defense Ministry to speed up the procedures needed to acquire military equipment for the army, stressing the government will urgently approve the decisions regulating the operation, as soon as notifications in this respect are submitted.
