Romanian Defense Minister Gabriel Oprea said in a press conference Monday that most military pensions will not be reduced, while some will even be increased, through recalculation under the country's new public pension law.

Romania’s law on pension recalculations, for which the Government will seek a confidence vote in Parliament, targets all special pensions, including those of former staff with the Defense and Interior Ministries, intelligence services and penitentiaries, the Labor Ministry announced Tuesday.

Romanian Labor Minister Mihai Seitan told senators Tuesday 180,000 pensions would be recalculated under the country’s pension bill and the process would take about six months.

Some 200,000 Romanians who collect special pensions will see their pensions recalculated once the new law in the field is enforced, Mihai Seitan, adviser to Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday.

The recently approved price recalculation for medicine on the Romanian market targets compensated and free drugs alone, Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu said Wednesday.
