The European Commission on Wednesday published its fifth annual report on Romania, which joined the EU in 2007, under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, which states the country continued to reform its judicial system and fight against corruption but further improvements are needed.

The Romanian government said failure to adopt urgent measures aiming to eliminate managing positions of decentralized services would seriously affect public administration and management proceedings, and stressed its recent act on the matter is based on EC recommendations aiming to cut spending.

The European Commission will present to the Ecofin Council, next week, a recommendation regarding the program for Romania’s convergence, said European commissioner for Multilingualism Leonard Orban.
