The sponsor of Romanian football team FC Arges, Cornel Penescu, the former general manager of SC PIC SA Pitesti, Liviu Facaleata, former referee Ionica Serea and football referee Marius Martis were indicted by anticorruption prosecutors on bribe-related charges.

Romanian Anticorruption Prosecutors (DNA) indicted on Thursday Florin Prunea, Gheorghe Constantin, Liviu Facaleata, Cornel Penescu and Cristian Libertatu, suspects in the refereeing corruption case.

Romania’s Pitesti Appeal Court decided Tuesday to release former Central Referee Commission vice-president Marcel Lica, while the other suspects in the referee corruption case will remain under arrest for another 30 days.

The Arges Court denied Wednesday the request for parole for Romanian football referee Marcel Savaniu, in custody for 29 days on charges of corruption.

Romanian referees Marcel Savaniu, Sorin Corpodean and Marcel Lica, the suspended vice-president Central Referee Commission (CCA), were put into 24-hour custody on Wednesday by anticorruption prosecutors, in the case regarding corruption in refereeing.

Romanian chief football referee Gheorghe Constantin, in custody for 29 days over corruption charges, faxed in his resignation Wednesday, the general manager of the Central Commission of Referees, Dan Petrescu, told MEDIAFAX.
