The Romanian Government will continue the clunkers program in 2010, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday.

Romanian car maker association APIA wants the car park renewal program to continue even if people will not be able to scrap three used cars for a new one and the sales registered by dealers are down.

Romanian environment minister Nicolae Nemirschi said Wednesday the country’s car park renewal program is going “pretty badly” because of “officials who don’t know what they’re talking about”, but said he would have a better picture of the program when he gets concrete data on Monday.

The scrap bonus the Romanian government grants to people who scrap their old cars and buy new ones under the country’s car park renewal program could be further increased this summer if few cars are sold during the first stage of the program, environment minister Nicolae Nemirschi said Tuesday.

The International Air Transport Association, or IATA, extended by two years the operational safety certificate granted to Romania’s state-owned airliner Tarom, the airliner said in a statement Sunday.
