The fifth round of negotiations between Romania and the United States regarding the anti-missile defense shield will take place in Bucharest on Tuesday, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry said Monday.

Romanian Foreign Ministry state secretary Bogdan Aurescu said Thursday that the first round of official discussions with U.S. representatives regarding the anti-missile shield focused on the project’s legal and security policy frameworks.

Romania will not have to buy SM-3 interceptor missiles and it will not pay for the setting up or layout of the location for the missiles on Romanian soil, according to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Romania will plead for a NATO anti-missile shield, complementary to that of the U.S., which doesn’t cover all countries in the Alliance, Romanian President Traian Basescu told he public television network TVR Monday.
