About one third of the 3,000 employees of shipyard Daewoo - Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI) in southeastern Romania Monday went on general strike indefinitely disgruntled that they were denied a salary increase.

Approximately one third of the 3,000 staff at the Daewoo Mangalia Shipyard in Constanta County, southeastern Romania, went on a full-blown strike indeterminately as of Monday, as the management of Daewoo - Mangalia Heavy Industries SA has denied their request for a pay raise.

Romanian President Traian Basescu visited Wednesday the Damen shipyard and steel plant ArcelorMittal in Galati town, eastern Romania, and stressed, at the end of his visit, that the situation at the shipyard is different from that at the steel plant.
