Romanian President’s spokesperson Valeriu Turcan on Thursday dismissed media allegations regarding potential ties between acting President Traian Basescu, at the time when he was Bucharest mayor, and businessman Puiu Popoviciu, who was recently detained by anticorruption prosecutors.

The Romanian National Liberal Party, or PNL, asks leading opposition party PSD to dismiss spokesman Cristian Diaconescu for his "lies" regarding the requests, by European leaders, for the resignation of foreign affairs minister Adrian Cioroianu.
