Romanian Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely said Friday information received from Hungarian experts shows the Danube River is not in danger of contamination with toxic red sludge at its point of entry in Romania, but Romanian authorities are prepared to intervene.

Romania’s National Water Administration on Thursday said the toxic red sludge that burst out of a Hungarian factory's reservoir has contaminated the Raba River in Hungary and reached the Danube River, at 2 p.m..

Emergency authorities in Mehedinti county, south-western Romania, have convened Thursday to decide what must be done regarding the ecological disaster in Hungary and stressed the industrial toxic mud spill might reach Bazias, where the Danube River enters Romania.
