Romania is not a major source of narcotics, but it remains an important transit country for the drugs on the Northern Balkans route, according to a 2009 narcotics report released by the U.S. State Department Tuesday.

Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov asked Romanian President Traian Basescu in a phone call conversation to allow free transit for Ukrainian gas to Bulgaria through Romania’s distribution network, Bulgarian agency Focus News reported.

Ukrainian state-owned company Naftogaz resumed Sunday transit of natural gas to Romania at normal capacity, although Russian gas producer Gazprom Friday notified Romanian authorities it reduces supplies destined to Romania by 32% until January 11, KievPost reported.
