Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday passed the law on the “small reform” in the justice system, which implements a series of measures to speed up trials.

Trials in Romania will no longer be suspended by default when exceptions of unconstitutionality are raised, after the Constitutional Court upheld the amendments to Law 47/1992 on the functioning of the Constitutional Court, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Civil Procedure Code.

Romania’s Senate Tuesday adopted the bill on speeding up trials with 76 to 37 votes and one abstention.

Bucharest Court vice president Laura Andrei said Friday the magistrates will cease all activities starting from Monday, except the preventive measures trials and those involving the placement of minors, while judges will refuse assignments to electoral offices.
