The United States has decided to raise non-immigrant visa application processing fees as of June 4, based on a tiered structure, the U.S. embassy in Bucharest said in a press release Tuesday.

The Government of the United States granted Romania $50,000 for immediate flood relief assistance to help Romanians recover from the recent devastating floods in the northern part of the country, the U.S. Embassy said Tuesday.

Romania still faces abuse, corruption and discrimination issues, although the government has addressed some human rights problems during the year, according to the 2007 U.S. State Department country report on human rights practices.
